Check out my new Music Biz blog Music Biz Snips (Notes to self…from a DIY Singer/Songwriter) http://www.musicbizsnips.wordpress.com (like biz-ness…biz-snips, get it?)! As the subtitle might suggest, I started this blog for myself, in order to keep track of and categorize things I’m learning as I go. However, I realized that fellow musicians might find it useful, and music lovers (particularly those of you who love MY music;) ) might find the process interesting.

SO, not only did I make it public, but I definitely encourage and appreciate comments, especially insight from fellow musicians who’ve been there/done that and those who are still pretty much at the bottom with me! I love to learn from others, and there is something about sharing mutual struggles that makes one feel not quite so alone in this dog-eat-dog world

The «GO» Cultural Change event (http://www.goconversation.org) last night was great despite the snow/driving 10mi/hr-quite a few people showed up! And new MD state senator Bill Ferguson bought my CD and joined my email list! (SCORE!) I also realized afterwards that he tweeted about me, “incredible opening performance.” Pic/comment here: http://plixi.com/p/69383687 LOL my mom is hilarious. She sold 2 CDs to strangers passing by, not even a part of the event and didn’t know who I was!

Yes! The first episode of The Bachelor just showed up on my Hulu! (guilty pleasure…;) Haha this season should be VERY interesting!

Completing my week’s goal not going so well… can’t get my cover design to work in photoshop:-/ might have to start w/ something new…

Top goal this week: to get “The Unrefined” EP sent to be replicated (and perhaps add “Take Your Time (Live Demo)” before doing so?) !!!

Oy, booking yourself is no simple task! I’m still amazed when a venue says “yes, we’d love to have you play!” Its pretty hit or miss… But in case you’re wondering, my focus right now is on booking festivals, then on booking smaller venues around whichever festivals take me!

Musikfest & Moving

@ Musikfest 2010 w/ Rob Hinkal of ilyAIMY
Hey! Long time no update! I’ve been busy in Boston getting my album recorded…it has taken WAYYY longer than I expected, but I’m getting used to things taking WAYYY longer than I expect, so it doesn’t phase me too much.

Anyway, I was able to get away last weekend with my parents to Bethlehem PA, where I was honored to play on the Martin Guitar sponsored “Lyrikplatz” stage at Musikfest! This was my first festival, and the experience was great! There were lots of big artists who played over the course of the week, such as Martina McBride and Norah Jones, and of course I was at a much smaller stage than them but I got videoed and interviewed by a local TV station (who said they would send me the footage, so we’ll see!), and the crowd was great. I also got to hear/meet the band that played after me, ilyAIMY (which stands for “I love you and I miss you”) and they were AMAZING! They’re also from Baltimore, so I look forward to seeing and hearing them more since…

I’m MOVING back to Maryland in a couple weeks! Woo Hoo! Obviously the album recording isn’t completely done yet, so I still need to tie up some loose ends that I have to do here in Boston, and then probably finish the rest after I move. I’m not sure how it will work out, but I don’t think I could stay here another month. In fact, I already dropped off most of my stuff in MD when I drove to PA. I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to being home indefinitely, after years of scattered visits. I’m ready to be around my family and old friends, and I’m excited to scope out the Baltimore/Towson/D.C. music scene! I always felt SOOO bored and lonely as a musician in my neck of the woods, but I think this time around I will have a better idea of where to network. We’ll see. For now, I’m not too worried about it, just looking forward to being home soon, and to hopefully having a finished album to show you before 2011 rolls around! Expect a party haha! And I look forward to hanging with you fellow Marylanders, so hit me up! Miss you all!
